La Clave Fest is london's largest free Latin music and dance festival. We specialise in showcasing the best UK-based Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese (Latin) talent, BOTH RESIDENTS AND UK BORN AND BRED LATINOS, as well as exciting international artists.
In the 6 weeks leading up to the day of the festival, we take artists and exceptional people into schools to inspire young people with their stories and to impart their knowledge, skills and passion about their culture and heritage. This culminates in a day of fantastic music and dance in one of London's most stunning locations.
WHO WE ARE
we are Latinolife - the UK’s leading Latin media and events. We organize Latin events around the year, the most important being The LUKAS Awards, europe's only Latin entertainment awards ceremony, where the public and expert judges vote for their favourite latin artists of the year, culminating in a fabulour gala ceremony. This is how we discover wonderful new artists every year. www.thelukas.co.uk
We also produce Latinolife – the UK’s Latin culture magazine – online (www.latinolife.co.uk) and in print (www.issuu.com/latinolife). we distribute 20k copies of our magazine around london, and send a weekly newsletter to 62k subscribers. sign up here if you'd like to receive it
WHY WE DID IT
The original idea of La Clave Fest was to take the Amazing talent that we discover each year through The Lukas awards to the wider public and showcase the UK’s best Latin artists. Every year the LUKAS discovers new musicians, bands, dancers and artists THat we felt the need to share the work of this exceptional talent that represents a unique uk latin idenity.
OUR MISSION - why did we do this?
We wanted to do something different: to show Latin culture in all its breadth and depth; the variety, the diversity, the fusion of genres and ethnicities.
We wanted to break misconceptions about latin music and dance by showcasing authentic, quality expressions of Latin genres, within their cultural contexts, as opposed to clichéd, low-quality, hybrid forms, divorced from their roots or diluted (as in Strictly). Just as The LUKAS is about judging our culture using our own criteria, La Clave is about presenting this culture to the public on its own terms, not filtered.
we also seek to provide a platform for the unique creative identity bursting out of Britain’s second and third generations of UK-Latinos. they are the future of uk culture.
